Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli Isolates Identified from Patients with Travelers' Diarrhea

Market: Traveler’s diarrhea is the most common illness affecting travelers, and affects as many as 800 million people a year.  The most common causative agent of traveler’s diarrhea is Enterotoxigenic E. coli. Toxins secreted by these bacteria result in severe watery diarrhea.

The Technology: Researchers at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston have assembled a large library of more than 500 Enterotoxigenic E.coli strains. These strains have been collected from patients with traveler’s diarrhea around world in the past 10 years and make up the largest available collection of Enterotoxigenic E. coli strains.
